Busy, busy weekend. I really have to make this more frequent than a once a week blog. I always mean to type something up more often, but something always comes up that prevents me from doing so.
Anyway, Saturday May 2nd, I went out turkey hunting with my co-worker's boyfriend Jaime. He was at my place, bright and early at 5 a.m...and we were sitting in our first spot at 5:30. I've forgotten how much I miss watching the sunrise in the forest. It's a different experience compared to say a sunrise off your back porch, or a beach. It's more of an experience. When you're in camo, and no animals can see you, it's like you don't even exist. So you get to TRULY experience the forest wake and come alive, unhindered. The symphony of bird calls, as the sun peeks over the horizon, is something everyone should experience at least once. It's amazing.
Anyway, bad luck all day Saturday. Did not bring anything home, but it doesn't matter to me, as I just love being in the woods...plus I have a whole month to try to bag a turkey. We're going again this next Saturday.
Sunday was long, but I managed to squeeze a lot out of it. I woke up at 5:30 a.m. so I could go out and take some pictures, especially since I found some really scenic areas while we were scouting out different hunting spots yesterday. It's been a long time since I got up that early for the sole purpose of trying to grab some photos. I really love the lighting in this "golden hour" and I have to make a point of doing this more often, as that type of light is just none existent the rest of the day, aside from the end of day "golden hour".
I got home at 7:30, and made us all breakfast, and we watched The Rocker. That movie was hilarious. I love Rayne Wilson. Well, around lunchtime, we figured it would be a crime to waste such a beautiful day on the couch, so I took the fam over to the site of John D. Rockefeller's home, which he was born in, and lived his early life in. Nothing is left of the old house of course, but the old stone foundation is still there, along w/ a plaque on the wall, explaining the site's significance. Forest has sprung up all around the place, but even still, with just the foundation there, it was a cool thing to see. It's amazing to me that one of the world's biggest businessmen, and philanthropists was born right here, in this tiny town of Richford (about 4 miles from my home now), and that he came from such humble beginnings.
After that I took the fam over to a stream I found yesterday as well, while trying to find turkey spots. I thought she'd get a kick out of the beavers and the dam that I found there. When I originally stopped by there were a few of them swimming back and forth, working on it, but this afternoon, they were not around...maybe inside their home, relaxing after all the hard work yesterday.
I heard a plop of water while there, and thought it may have been feeding fish, so I took out Hailey and I's rod from the van, and we began to fish, but nothing was biting. I think the sounds that I thought were fish breaking water, might have been turtles, which would explain the lack of bites. So after that we got back in the van, came home, and have been lounging ever since.
Phew...that was a lot of info. Back to work tomorrow, and as usual the weekend went by too fast...but we had lots of fun.
